Jennifer Politis, PhD, LPC - Bergen County Therapist

I am an Educational Psychologist, Licensed School Psychologist and Licensed Therapist for over 15 years in NJ and NY. I am the Founder of Wellness Counseling of New Jersey. I have worked in various agency and educational settings. I treat children, adolescents, and adults with a broad range of psychological and behavioral disorders, including: depression, anxiety, relationship issues, divorce, adolescent issues, and learning issues. I started my career in the school system working in K-12 schools and colleges. I transitioned to private practice in 2011 focusing on helping families (children, adolescents and adults) deal with anxiety and depression accompanying everyday life. My mission has always stemmed from being an adolescent and suffering depression and not having the right professional to turn to. I became a psychologist to help young people find someone they can relate to.

My scientific work has been published in the Journal of Social Psychology, Psychotherapy Theory, Research and Practice, Journal of Creativity and Psychological Reports. I have presented at the American Psychological Association, Association for Psychological Science, Society for Psychotherapy Research and the National Middle School Association. I have been featured in many newspapers and magazines including USA Today, Good Housekeeping, New Jersey Family, The Record, and Mommybites to name a few. I received my PhD in Educational Psychology and MSEd in Counseling Psychology (school and mental health focus) from Fordham University. I am a National Institute of Health Fellow, member of the American Psychological Association and the American Counseling Association. I hold many licenses and certifications including Approved Clinical Supervisor, Director of School Counseling, School Supervisor, Licensed School Psychologist, Certified School Counselor, Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Mental Health Counselor. I have taught as an adjunct at Fordham University and the New York City College of Technology.

I am passionate about helping clients and therapists alike make their emotional health a priority to be able to connect more with the relationships they have in their life. I have a podcast titled Emotional Hygiene with Dr. Jen. I live in Bergen County, New Jersey with my husband and three beautiful children. I enjoy reading, basketball, yoga, pilates and traveling. I love giving back to the community and organizations dear to my heart such as Operation Underground Railroad and the Child Mind Institute.
