My journey into being a mental healthcare provider started at a young age. I remember being ten years old asking my father from the back seat of our station wagon, “How come people think the way they think?” After dedicating my college and graduate careers to trying to answer that question, I have some good explanations for my younger self. I have supported clients through a variety of challenges in my career, starting as a clinical case manager in 2016 and transitioning into private practice therapy in 2021. My different roles have allowed me to amass a multitude of tools and strategies to help my clients navigate whatever life may throw at them.
As an eclectic therapist, I draw from cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness, positive psychology, and strengths-based therapy to help you build a personalized toolbox that works for your current needs and your long-term goals. So much life can happen between weekly sessions, and I want to ensure that you can utilize the insights from our meetings to benefit you in the real world.
I know how uncomfortable it can be to open up to a new person. My aim is to create a trusting relationship where you feel not only comfortable but also truly understood. Sometimes that looks like talking about a new book you’re reading or what’s been going on at work first, and getting into deeper topics a little later. I let you open up at your own pace while working towards your goals in approachable steps.
My favorite poet, Andrea Gibson, said it best,
“I think we are all part fight the flight
Part run for your life
Part ‘please please please like me’
Part Can’t breathe
Part scared to say you’re scared
Part say it anyway…
You belong here and everything you feel is okay.
Everything you feel is okay.”
