Kara James, MS, LPC, NCC - Bergen County Therapist

As a therapist, I believe my role is to create a space that individuals and couples can explore themselves with curiosity, and vulnerability in order to gain insight, address areas of conflict and identity patterns that may restrict them and their relationships from meeting their fullest potential.

It is essential to me to assist and collaborate with my clients in clarifying their goals, and path through self-exploration. I aim to be warm, open, and encouraging.

There is often a misconception that couples and relationship therapy is for married couples or committed partners. The reality is that couples and relationship therapy is for anyone looking to improve relationship dynamics, establish healthier communication, or gain a deeper understanding of one another.

I use evidenced based interventions and modalities such as, The Gottman Method, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused therapy, Mindfulness, and MBSR (mindfulness based stress reduction) with clients. Some of my specialties outside of relationships and couples are; anxiety, depression, family challenges, life transitions, parenting.

My goal is to empower individuals, couples, and families to feel more equipped to overcome the challenges they experience.
